The "Black Wall Street" Tulsa Massacre

This Wednesday at 5, we'll be discussing a very important topic. Pete Dugan is an expert amateur historian who enjoys researching American stories that are less well known. He has given presentations on Civil War history & other topics and will be speaking about the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 (described below), followed by a Q & A.

The Greenwood District, of Tulsa Oklahoma, known then as the nation’s “Black Wall Street” was one of the most prosperous African American communities in the United States. On May 31, 1921 a white mob, inflamed by rumors that a young Black man had attempted to rape a White girl, invaded Greenwood causing the destruction of property and life.
