6:30 PM: Doors Open
7:00 PM: Men In Heels
Produced and Directed by Bryan Mark Urbsaitis, newly recut in May 2016, five New York City drag queens discuss gender transformation and empowerment through their lived experiences as drag performers. In spite of advancements in marriage equality education, legislation, and social justice, the 'T' in LGBT continue to be marginalized within the larger queer community. Men in Heels explores how drag queens balance between their performative personas and their normal lives, fighting invisibility through community involvement as unacknowledged and overlooked superheroes in the battle for true LGBT equality. Anti-bullying and general pro-marriage equality legislation advises non-discrimination both among LGBTers and heteronormative society, however, stigma surrounding drag, gender, gender-bending, alternative sexual orientations and lifestyles, and open discussions about sex prevent Trans-, drag-, poly-, and others from living full lives within their communities. Exploring how these narratives impact the individuals involved can shed light on how society treats some of its most vulnerable members while contributing to the positive discourse on LGBT equality. Starring Rev. Yolanda Roger A. Mapes (Reverend Yolanda), Michael Barret Jones (Witti Repartee), Javier Sanchez (Robusta Capp), Will Harrell (Candy Samples), and Cooper Douglas (PhilEsha De Lox). A +Positive World Media film.
Following the screening, we will be joined by Michael Barret Jones (Witti Repartee) and Janice Urbsaitis, proud mom of a gay son who just so happens to make informative, entertaining, positive changes for the LGBT and HIV+ communities of the world.
