Just saying the word "November" conjures up thoughts of Thanksgiving, pumpkin-flavored EVERYTHING, and warm sweaters.
Join the group at GAAMC Monday, November 13, for a review of "The Joys of November!" As much as we appreciate the extra hour of sunlight, November 5 brings us an extra hour of snoozing as we end Daylight Saving Time and "Fall Back!" Will we have "Indian Summer" - those extra, unexpected warm days before the chill days of the season? Only time will tell!
This month's full moon is November 27!
Declared an official national holiday by Abraham Lincoln in 1863, there is more to the story of Thanksgiving than we have celebrated throughout the years. "The First Thanksgiving: The Real Story" will be told in a video, as well as the history of Veterans Day, November 11, "Honoring All Who Served." What is your favorite Thanksgiving memory growing up? Do you have any relatives or have you yourself served in the military?
All you have to do to know the flower of November is look around you! Everywhere, in every yard, on every embankment is the lovely chrysanthemum, originally bright yellow, but purple, orange, pink, red, and white have all been bred, and each has its own special meaning beyond love, loyalty, and friendship. Scorpio and Sagittarius are the signs of the zodiac for November babies. Topaz, the birthstone of the month, colored from yellow to amber, was once believed by the ancients to make the wearer invisible!
Come to find out the origin of Fibonacci Day, ironically 11/23, Thanksgiving Day this year, and when is "Black Friday," "Small Business Saturday," and "Cyber Monday?"
Refreshments will be served. A small donation is requested.
