The Power of Mindfulness

Open Talk will begin at 7:00 PM, with Liz as our facilitator.  This is our popular weekly discussion group where we discuss topics that are meant to open our hearts and minds for the purpose of building a more supportive community of friends.  

At 8:00 PM, Ricky will use a short video lecture, handouts and possibly live telephone interviews to introduce us to the power of mindfulness.  

Points to ponder, which will be discussed in the video lecture: 

  • People are not perfect, but Transformation is possible
  • Mindfulness is Paying Attention in the present moment with kindness
  • Research shows that we are inattentive forty-seven percent of the time
  • As you practice mindfulness activities, brain chemistry changes
  • London taxi drivers developed a greater visual cortex after memorizing street locations
  • Research on Mindfulness shows it works
  • Research also revealed many in some studies felt that they were not good enough; shaming someone to do something is not effective
  • Those who feel shame hide the parts of themselves that can be transformed
