LGBTQ Living History Program

October is LGBTQ History Month! This year, GAAMC is teaming up with Roxbury Public Library to produce a live event to be held over Zoom. Our program will feature live and recorded segments of members of the LGBTQ community explaining significant points along the LGBTQ history timeline and how their lives were directly impacted by these events...good and bad.

This event is part of the Roxbury Library’s Common Grounds series presented by the Library and the Roxbury Coalition for Social Change, which explores and facilitates civil conversations on race, political beliefs, gender, creed and more, celebrating diversity in Roxbury.

A Living History of the LGBTQ+ road traveled, speakers will give an overview of major events in the LGBTQ+ timeline.  Panelists will relate personal histories regarding Same Gender Adoption (1997), Marriage Equality (2015), Protection of Transgendered Students (2016), and more to be announced.

Click to register online or call the library at 973-584-2400.

What part of our history impacted your life the most? We are looking for people who have experience with the Manny's Den Case of 1967, Stonewall Riots of 1969, the AIDS epidemic, Don't Ask - Don't Tell, and issues related specifically to LGBTQ life in New Jersey, such as changes to NJ's Law Against Discrimination, etc.

Send an email to [email protected] if you would like to participate. Because we have only enough time for 5 or 6 topics, we may not be able to include you in our live broadcast, but may be able to include your piece in our new website, which is currently in development.
