Colin Kaepernick is an American civil rights activist and a former quarterback. He played six seasons for the San Francisco 49ers in the National Football League (NFL). In 2016, he knelt during the national anthem at the start of NFL games in protest of police brutality and racial inequality in the United States. Some people wrongly assumed he was showing disrespect for America and its symbols of patriotism by expressing his First Amendment Rights. The backlash was verbally violent, financially devastating, and life-changing.
Academy Award winning documentarian Ava DuVernay has created a mini-series for Netflix to show highlights and lowlights from Colin's life in the hopes that all Americans could see "the other side" from someone who has lived in a White world as a Black man.
We will focus on this series as a our tribute to slain Civil Rights icon Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Please join us.
