For nearly 50 years, the United States government has been splitting apart, becoming more and more partisan, more and more polarized. In many aspects of American Life, we are clearly engaged in a cultural, anti-civil war, which sometimes turns violent, even deadly.

During GAAMC’s meeting of March 28, we learned about some of the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation coming out of states like Texas, Florida, Utah, Tennessee, and others. Any rational adult would have to stop and ask themselves why this is happening. Bills that prevent transgender students from participating in school sports, or using appropriate restrooms, or bills to prevent medical treatments, and now bills that force the erasure of LGBTQ+ existence from the lives of all children below fourth grade. There are bills to prevent people from voting. Some bills are designed to abuse immigrants, even though we are an entire nation of immigrants. Some bills’ sole aim is to destroy the public education system. Do some bills block the decriminalization of marijuana? Why? Who is behind this? Who does this benefit? Who does this protect? Who is fighting the stop the abuse? What can we do to help?
