COVID has shut down "Congress!" Producer Laura Iacometta will join us live, on Monday, August 16, to announce that Congress will reconvene, this time at the Burgdorf Center for the Performing Arts in Maplewood this coming November. Join us, as Laura explains how an all-female cast of the musical "1776" changes the story, without changing a single word of the script or lyrics. After Laura's presentation, please let Liz, Andy or Gordon know if you'd be interested in GAAMC organizing an outing to see the show.
For all in-person meetings, GAAMC requires that attendees wear face masks to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19. We also expect attendees to maintain a space of at least 6 feet between each other, as the minimum for social distancing. For now, refreshments are limited to sealed individual portions of snacks and beverages. You are welcome to bring something to eat or drink, but please no sharing.
OffBook Productions was founded in 2017 by Laura Iacometta with a mission to create new and non-traditional theatrical performance opportunities for Northern New Jersey’s abundant community theater talent. Its flagship production of perennial Broadway hit 1776 turned heads by taking the infamously male-dominated musical and populating it with an entirely female cast. Without changing a word of the text, this fresh take infused new life into the script. Eager audiences have poured in, seeing 1776: The Women of Congress sell out three separate stagings from 2017-2019. Although live theater was unfortunately suspended throughout the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, Laura and OffBook are happy to announce that… at long last... “Congress is back in session!” Thanks to a partnership with the Strollers of Maplewood, an encore production of 1776: The Women of Congress will take the stage this November at the historic Burgdorf Center for the Performing Arts. Performance information, cast, and additional details will be posted soon on OffBook’s Facebook page. While the company is extremely excited to return to live performance, Laura is also eager to begin reviving another group tradition – giving back to her community. Since the very first performance, OffBook Productions has donated a portion of ticket sales to national organizations such as Planned Parenthood and EMILY’S List as well as local women’s shelter, Strengthen Our Sisters. “Above all else, OffBook Productions prides itself on creating a sense of family with every show it stages. As the world begins to open back up and we can safely gather together again, we welcome you to come join us for one of our performances!
